Recognized for her “sensitivity, intimacy and emotional depth” (Herald Journal), Kate Shim is an emerging young artist, praised for her mature artistry. She has performed at the Neue Galerie in New York, Joaquín Rodrigo Hall in Valencia, Museo Evaristo Valle in Gijón, Escuela Municipal de Música in Burgos, Preston Bradley Hall, Merkin Hall, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, and has also been featured live on Chicago’s WFMT.
A native of Chicago, Kate started playing piano at the age of four and began intensive studies with the late Emilio del Rosario at the Music Institute of Chicago. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Mannes College of Music, and her Master’s Degree at the New England Conservatory. Her principal teachers include Victor Rosenbaum, Yoheved Kaplinsky, and Yuri Kim.
As a passionate educator, she has had the privilege of teaching in New York City for the past ten years. She believes in an individual approach that gives each student a comprehensive music education in a constructive, positive and fun setting. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s needs and wants, making sure each student feels valued, encouraged, and challenged. Her young students have won state and regional competitions, and have been admitted to Pre-College programs in New York City.
